DESCRIPTION TAG: The Description Tag is a very important tag with-in the Head Tag. This tag tells the search engines in two to three sentences or less what that page is about with a little more detail and explanation than the Title tag. For example the Description Tag for this page COULD look like this:
<meta name=”description” content=”Though in recent years is has been alluded to by various search engine professionals and speculators that meta tags hold little to no value anymore influencing the ranking or placements of webpages in search engines, for our purposes here we will still discuss them if not for anything less then understanding the history of SEO.“>
The <meta name=”description” content=”YOUR TEXT HERE – YOUR DESCRIPTION HERE”> is the description tag. The meta name=”description” represents the type of meta tag you are using for the search engine to interpret. The content=”You Information Here” is where you actually insert your description that you would like the search engine to read, index, and publish in the results. The description tag tells human being and search engines what the page they are about to view contains in a more detailed fashion. If you don’t write a description tag many times the search engine will automatically create one for you. However it might not convey the message you would like people to see and read.
