AOL Took Over My Firefox Homepage, New Tabs, & New Windows.  How Do I get Rid of This and Just Go Back To The Way I Had Things Before?

It was terrible!  A friend of mine had problems with his Trillian instant messenger so he downloaded the AOL Instant messenger for a fresh and clean install to be able to keep all his contacts and continue his work day.  All off a sudden, BAM!  AOL loaded up all of it’s crap and took over his computer or at least what would appear at first glance to have taken over his computer.  It really only took over his Firefox Homepage and wouldn’t allow him to change back.

Is it spyware? NO!

Is it a virus? NO!

It would most likely be classified as Adware, but I am not even willing to call it that.  Because technically taking over your Firefox homepage and serving pop-up windows when you launch the instant messenger doesn’t really count as Adware it just appears that way.  Really it is simply a homepage takeover and pop-ups that come from the instant messenger.

This will be discussed in other articles of this site.

So How Can I Get Rid of this AOL Firefox Homepage Takeover Caused By The Instant Messenger Download?

Here is how to get rid of it and regain control so you can change your firefox homepage back to the way it was.  I suggest using “Search Reset”.  Search Reset is a FREE add-on for Firefox.  It is really easy to install.

Definition From Search Status: “This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and then resets your search preferences and home page to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.
